I Am Very Tall

Readers: I've been away for a while. For the last several months, I've been crushed by work. One of those sad things that happens to people that don't have 9-to-5's. There are two key reasons why this has stopped me from writing. The first is that I just didn't have time to write anything. The second and more damning reason is that I didn't really have anything to write about.

Working all the time makes you into a really, really boring person. Because when you do nothing but work, you are effectively being deprived of the opportunity to learn about interesting things (or things that would be interesting to other people, depending on how you look at it). I've barely looked at a book or a newspaper in months, and in fact had to be told about the Virginia Tech shootings by my infinitely more culturally literate girlfriend.

Moreover, once you stop writing, it's hard to get back on the horse. I probably wouldn't even be doing this, if it weren't for the few people that told me to start up again.

So, here's my post for the day. As an analyst at a large consulting firm, you're constantly being
asked to put together slides that make ideas immediately comprehensible. In some instances, this can be accomplished by writing simple, straightforward bullet points. But most of the time, it's better to just have a very clear graphic.

The first example comes from indexed. It very succinctly describes the difficulties in finding adequate mates as we age:

The second example is a Village Voice article on the single, "This is why I'm hot." The article gets a bump because it spends a lot of time illustrating phrases that are otherwise completely retarded. Here's a snippet:

"The most amazing line in "This Is Why I'm Hot"—and, even at this early a juncture, quite possibly the most amazing line of any song to see release in 2007—is "I'm hot 'cause I'm fly/You ain't 'cause you not." Brutal and unassailable in its simplicity. Consider the reasoning, first, of just "I'm hot 'cause I'm fly":
Mims is hot because he's fly. But it raises the question: Does being hot guarantee one's being fly? "You ain't 'cause you not" would seem to clear that up:"
